Run Window

Use cute Run Window instead of awkward standard Windows' one!

Run Window is accessible from LaunchBand and by use of keyboard shortcut.

The window consists of combo box where you can enter keywords, edit box for arguments and a list of files those match the query.

How to make a query to open a program or a document?

Just type in combo box one or more words (or prefixes of words) of filename (program name or document name) you want to run. All files with these prefixes of words those are been contained in name of file are at your service! Example: to run Microsoft Word© I can type "m w" or "wo mi". If I will type only "word" I'll get "wordpad.exe" at the top of result list and "Microsoft Word.lnk" (link to Microsoft Word) on the second place.
When query is executed, the program fills result list with files those match the query. Files are sorting depending to their accordance to the typed query. Besides, the file will be placed higher in the list if it is situated in one of the folders of $PATH environment variable or it is completely matches the query.
If wanted item is not indexed for search (see below), you can select it manually by pressing "Select..." button.
You can select any program from history list in combo box. The history can contain up to 50 applications with arguments.

How to navigate over result list of files and open the selected file?

When typing in combo box you can use Up Arrow, Down Arrow, Page Up, Page Down buttons to navigate over list. Then press "Enter" to open file. If you want to browse history lines while you're in combo box, press "Ctrl" and "Up Arrow" or "Down Arrow" buttons.
You can use scroll bars of the list and point selection to a wanted file. Then double-click the file with a left mouse button or push "Run" button to open file.

To browse a folder of selected file with Explorer push "Browse folder" button. There you can produce standard Windows' actions with this file or other files.

How to index files for Run Window fast search?

Your hard disk files must be indexed before you can use Run Window. When you popup Run Window for the first time, RunIt! will offer you to scan your folders. You can set scan mask in "Rescan disk folders" dialog box.

Type in edit box a file mask or several file masks delimeted by commas. Some of them are set by default ("*.exe, *.com, *.bat, *.cmd, *.lnk, *.pif"). Add any file masks you want (like *.doc of WinWord documents, *.mp3 of Mpeg Layer 3 sound files or *.txt of plain text files).

These are metasymbols that can be used in the mask:

* - matches any sequence of symbols (include zero-length sequence)

? - matches any single symbol

[^ABcd] - matches any symbol that is contained in square brackets. If after the opening bracket goes '^' symbol, this metasymbol matches any symbol that is NOT contained in square brackets.

NOTE: be careful when setting rescan masks! If huge quantity of files match your masks at once (e.g. more than 30000 files on your disk can match to "*" or "*.*" mask), Run Window will work extremely slowly.

"Scan network drives" check box allows you to include all available network drives for rescan.

Your hard disk files must indexed regularly to submit changes in file system. You can use autorescan feature that can be turned on in General options tab page of "Configuration" dialog. Otherwise you should rescan disks periodically by yourself. To do it press "Rescan..." button or select "Rescan disk folders" from Actions Menu, set the described mask and press "Scan".
